Quick post on the first episode of 'RD Sennou Chousashitsu'

So the first episode presents the background of the story (which I summarized here before). Not much new info is presented, except now we know that Haru is to rediscover his diving potential during a power outage at his hospital. Also, something called 'real dive' is mentioned. 'Real dive' simple means a dive where you drop yourself as far as you can go into the sea just for the sake of feeling the depth of the sea. I am guessing that it can be contrasted with dive in Metaru, ie. a sea of information, which (according to the info pages on the official website) has pressure proportionate to its 'length' and 'depth'. I wonder if the English title of this series is meant to be Real Dive rather than Real Drive (which is the title that seems to have proliferated within fandom).

This episode is great - thoughtful dialogues, some nicely choreographed action. It promises to be a worthy successor to Ghost in the Shell.

[10/04/2008 EDIT: Actually, forget I said a thing. I just listened more carefully again and I think it is not 'real dive' but 'free dive'. And Real Drive is the titled on Production I.G.'s webpages.]

hope you're right about "real dive" - it would be so confusing if they use both! :D

Hi. I found an article related to Japan in your site.
I want to often visit your site from now on.

See my edit above. I think it is 'Real Drive' officially after all (though I still think 'Real Dive' would have been a more fitting title since the protagonist is a diver and loves the sea...)

Now this is becoming frustrating. I've been refreshing T****Tosho for nearly a week, and still no raw ? -___-
Well I can still wait for Shinsen after all, but still...

It is there... if you search under 'Real Drive'...

Real Drive ??
Not "real dive" ?? I was looking for "RD", "sennou", etc.
Thank you anyway, I would have never found it myself. Will post a comment when I'm done with it.

Not 'Real Dive'. Sorry for spreading misinformation.

So I watched ep.1, and I was, um, disappointed. Or rather, annoyed by the heavy load of fanservice. The androids are unbearable - ludicrous breasts and hips, clichéed behaviour and lines...

The story does seem to be good, but I can't say I like the series ; I should focus on Kaiba and Kitarou.

BTW, my complaint about androids is weird when you think about it. It somewhat implies that displaying women with large pelvises is out of place in anime... It goes against the underlying loli standard (or at least, thin and attractive women) followed by 95% of anime. I'd love to hear about that from Wabi Sabi : can you think of any series where the main female character is neither a charming teenager nor a hot babe ?

I thought it was the character designer doing his bit to combat widespread female anorexia or something... It was certainly calculated to provoke a strange reaction - some feminist audience will probably be offended at seeing nothing but thin (and attractive) women on screen, but would they be not/less offended at seeing nothing but cushion-like women on screen?

I think it depends on what you mean by 'charming'. I don't think Kino from 'Kino no Tabi' is all that charming - she may have other qualities but she does not charm to please. And she isn't much of a 'hot babe'.
