Upcoming Russian animation: 'Fedot the Shooter'
So I learned about this upcoming Russian animation called Fedot the Shooter from Twitch. The details of the interior somehow remind me of... Mononoke, though I can't say that I am overall sold on this from what I see from the trailer above yet. It just... does not seem to have the alchemical magic you see in animation from, say, the Russian master Ivan Maximov. You can check out the company's website here.
I am guessing that it is based on a story written by Leonid Filatov and there has already been an earlier cinematic adaptation in 2002.
"Strelets" is not really a "shooter". It means more a type of unit, like "musketeer". In this case, Fedot is in government armed forces before Peter the Great (who replaced strelets units with a conscript army). Translation is difficult though. "Fedot the soldier of the medieval Russian army" sounds a bit unveildy, don't you agree?

it sucks. it's unnecessarily 3d. and, yes, it's for kids (i.e. aimed at minors). it's a la fairy tale (how I hate fairy tales...) it wants to be funny, but it's not. probably (I can guess ;-) ), it's overall stupid. it's all I hate in animation...
Mononoke! you gotta be kidding... Japanese animation is complete opposite of this (even in its video game adaptations ;-) ). it's more serious, more realistic (in a good sense), sexual, and overall has a more "adult" feeling to it.

Thanks for the useful info. I was just lifting the English title from the Twitch post since I know no Russian. Yeah, that's quite a mouthful indeed.

I said details of the interior (ie. the walls and decor of the room) somehow reminds me of Mononoke - they are both ornate and inspired by Japanese/Russian traditions. Taken as a whole, Mononoke is totally different, of course.
