New anime from Studio Ghibli: 'Iblard Jikan (イバラード時間)'

So a new anime has emerged from Studio Ghibli and it is called Iblard Jikan (イバラード時間).

It is directed by the artist Inoue Naohisa (井上直久). To be honest, I have not heard of his name until now. A search on Google reveals that he had also worked on Neko no Ongaeshi and Whisper of the Heart (which I have not seen either). I don't have much clue as to what the story is about yet, though I can safely say I like the artwork. You can browse the galleries at the official website here: ttp://www.iblard.com/english/

The reason you haven't heard much about the story is probably because it doesn't have a story – it's just animated versions of existing Inôe paintings. And it's not exactly new – it came out in Japan back in summer '07.

Yeah, it took me quite a lot of research to understand that it is a DVD made of animated boards of
And it does remind that flying scene in Whisper of the Heart (I vaguely recall the picture book, where I could see a girl and a cat in formak suit jumping and hopping in Iblard)

BTW, what does "Iblard" mean ? Seems to me like a portmanteau of "ballade" and "ibara" (thorns ?).

I had a feeling that it was probably out some time ago, only I had never heard of it until now. -___-

So I guess it's a sort of ga-nime thing.

Good question. I wonder what it means. I will probably look into this once I get a DVD of it. I have a feeling that there is probably some sort of self-contained explanation within the movie.

Uhmmm... It's just a short film and I don't think it's new (I can't remember the year but I'm sure it's not).

Anyway, I enjoy the music. Chilled me out a lot!

Really got to love how "up-to-date" the RSS feed is, I almost wondered why there weren't any updates for a while and it turned out I shouldn't have relied on the feed.

I heard about this one some time back too; there was another video full of drawings by the famous background artist Kazuo Oga I think. It was really just paintings with hardly any movement.

I knew that picture seemed familiar and so did the name Iblard - at first I got confused with Kenji Miyazawa, but it was that magical place full of gems featured in Baron's story in Mimi wo Sumaseba. There were floating clouds and there's a memorable scene of Shizuku with the pink umbrella floating through the sky with Baron... The same Baron who appeared in Neko no Ongaeshi.

I must have been living under a stone or something. Anyway, I wonder if it has been released overseas? I certainly have not heard of it being released in my corner of the woods...

Are there problems with the RSS feed? That's why I don't bother with RSS feeds at all except for news updates on my mobile phone. I go to check the blogs I read from time to time manually to see if there are updates. Besides, I like the whole graphic experience of a well-designed blog that is lost on RSS feeds.

The RSS feed was just not responsive for a while, that's all. I usually bother with them because then I can keep track of a lot of sites (I don't like keeping manual bookmarks for frequent visiting) especially those that don't update often like Cinnamon Ass. It's working fine now, so never mind.

I like to experience the benefits of a well-designed blog but usually that happens if the RSS content is an excerpt (i.e. "click to see more") If the content is really worth reading though, I should not have a problem with reading it on RSS feeds too.

Did you double-check the time stamps...? Maybe it's just me in a spell of busyness so that I wasn't able to update for a while...

I actually try to keep to a minimum blogs I do follow. I bookmark those few blogs I do read and that is that. -__-

Well. So much for the RSS feed malfunctioning, I simply didn't expect you to post that many on the same day and didn't consider the timestamps. Sorry about that then.

I figure while I have the time I might as well read a wide variety of blogs, although I suppose that time might be better spent reading books...

Haha, no problem. ^-^

In case some are wondering about Iblard Jikan, GhibliWorld.com has a review on it + an interview with Inoue which can be found over here:

While we're at it, a review on Ghibli's newer release, Oga Kazuo Ten, has also been posted:

Thanks for the links. Very helpful. ^-^
