Russian fansub of 'Toku wo Kakeru Shoujo' to be used in the official R5 DVD release
Do you remember the legendary Roxfan who fansubbed Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo in Russian and English? I just learned from his email that his fansub is to be used in the official R5 DVD release. Here is the link in Russian.

i'm ukrainian and i know russian and that "link in Russian" doesn't mention Roxfan (whoever he is...) at all (and nothing about using his fansub). it's just "official announcement" (as they put it) of licensing...

Thanks for the info. I don't know Russian, so I guess the link only mentions the official R5 DVD release but not about the fansub bit which I learned through private email then.

Well in any case, I doubt they will ever mention that they recycled fansub (=illegal) material for official DVDs...
Using fansubs as free material could be an "Entente cordiale" between copyright owners and fansubbers, but then again subtitles ripped from fansubbing groups are in a way a selling off of professional translators and subbers, so that would never work. Even if some fansubs' translations are more accurate than official subtitles...

Actually they did contact me and asked for the permission to use my translation. So not every company out there "rips off" fansubs without asking...

imo they not only have to ask your permission to use your translation — they have to pay you for it (because they're going to sell it (and if they're selling free stuff it can't be considered "free" anymore))...

They did offer some money, I can't say how much. But I'm not into this for the money anyway...
