The thing with Gankutsuou is that you never know when they are hiding subtle jokes behind the extravagant visuals:
1) Mors Certa, Hora Incerta
Some people do not like the way they adapted the plot of Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo into Gankutsuou. I rather like the way it is changed into a coming-of-age story. If you look carefully at this clock which appears in Luna in Episode 1, the newsflash happen to say 'one's minority'. I could hardly think it is a mere coincidence given the symbolic importance of the clock at the Count's hide-out at Champs Elysees as well as the watch the Count gives to Albert. The message is clear: The clock is ticking against one's minority.
